What are Growing Pains?

Growing pains in children are not as common as many think, growing should not cause pain nor is pain common in children. Many children are active and with these activities, they get out of alignment, a gentle chiropractic adjustment can relieve this and their discomfort.

Growing Pains. What can be done?

Chiropractic is based on the important relationship between the spine and the nervous system. One of the most basic ideas in chiropractic is that dysfunction in the spine and its joints can lead to dysfunction within the nervous system. Since the nervous system controls and coordinates all of the systems of the body, spinal dysfunction (also called a subluxation) can have wide-ranging effects on the body’s health.

Chiropractors have been caring for children for more than 100 years. Dr. Brooks, DC, MSN, CACCP, BCIP, RN is a Board Certified Pediatric Chiropractor (ICPA) and has many years of experience with children. This training makes it possible for her to evaluate and adjust the spinal misalignment and musculoskeletal systems in children. Spinal adjustments for infants and young children involve very light fingertip pressure to correct spinal misalignment.

In the case of ‘growing pains,’ we often find misalignment in the spine, legs, feet and shoulders that are creating the aching or throbbing they feel. When these misalign or subluxations are found a gentle adjustment is made to correct it. An x-ray may also be ordered to rule out any osseous (bone) abnormalities contributing to a child’s discomfort.
